Brown’s is on Albemarle Street in Mayfair, near Green Park.
For many, the main draw is the history. It opened in the 1830s as London’s first hotel, made by joining several townhouses together. Alexander Graham Bell made Britain’s first phone call from the building, and Rudyard Kipling wrote The Jungle Book during his stay.
Despite how old it is, the interiors don’t seem rusty or boring. They’ve kept all the original dark wood panelling and tiled floors, but updated the furniture so it feels comfortable and fresh.

DUKES is tucked into a quiet courtyard in St James’s. It’s famous for DUKES Bar, which makes some of the strongest martinis in London. Ian Fleming used to drink there, which is where the ‘shaken, not stirred’ line came from.
